THE 38th ANNUAL EGG-DROP CONTEST

October 11th, 2025

OBJECTIVE: 

To design a container that will protect a raw egg from fracture during a fall from the Corning Headquarters Parking Garage located at the corner of Market Street and Chestnut Street.

The goal of this event is to have fun and to encourage creative problem solving.

Contestants or designee must be present in order to participate. Registration opens at 9 am and closes at 11 am. No registration will be permitted beyond 11am.  Early registration will not be permitted.

FOR ALL CONTESTANTS:

1.  The container must be designed so that it can be dropped in any orientation.

2.  Raw, large, Grade A eggs will be provided by SWE at the contest site.  Each participant will have no more than ten minutes to package their egg.

3.   All containers must be opened by the participant or a designee after the drop; eggs must survive the fall with no visible cracks.

4.   Containers made of glass or otherwise deemed a safety hazard will not be allowed.

DROP RULES:

  1. The containers will be dropped from the top of the Parking Garage (height: ~3 stories).
  2. The drop target measures 24 ft x 24 ft.  Any container that does not land on the target will be disqualified.  CAUTION:  Parachutes can cause the objects to drift away from the landing pad.
  3. All entries will be dropped by an official contest dropper, from one specific location on top of the parking garage.
  4. Participants may not give special instructions to official droppers as to how to drop a particular entry.
  5. SWE is not responsible for weather conditions that could cause the container to miss the target.

PRIZES:

  1. Small prizes will be awarded to contestants with successful egg drops.

NOTES:

  1. All the decisions of the judges are final.
  2. The judges will disqualify any participants engaging in disruptive or destructive behavior.
  3. Any entries left on the prize table at the end of the event will be discarded.
  4. Public bathrooms are available in the public parking garage due east of the Corning HQ garage.
  5. PARKING:  Public parking garage and lots available surrounding Market Street for event parking.
